We walk alongside them, using a holistic approach that provides support from infancy through young adulthood, with a variety of services to meet individual needs. We’re also here to walk with families, offering them resources, opportunities and education to keep their family connections strong. Our approach is trauma-informed and honors the experiences of those we serve, so families can become stronger and kids can preserve those connections as a central part of their support system. These needs can’t be met by one person, entity or organization alone. That’s why we join together with organizations and individuals across the community to support kids and families. From policymakers to child welfare advocates, trauma specialists to local and state agencies, and community donors to partner nonprofits, we embrace the kind of togetherness that changes lives. Helping all kids receive the best possible care builds a strong foundation and empowers them to develop skills and work toward independence. Providing this security and the opportunities that come with it is at the heart of our mission, and at the heart of the people who carry it out.

Family Service Lincoln is a 501(c)3, founded in 1891 as the first charitable organization in Lincoln, Nebraska. The programming provided by Family Service has evolved over the years to meet the needs of families and fit the current conditions in our community. In 2021, we provided case management, housing, behavioral health therapy, expanded learning opportunities, and nutrition programs to 7,213 individuals. People’s City Mission was started in 1907 by local churches, offering food and shelter for transient and impoverished men, women and children. Today, the People’s City Mission is Lincoln’s primary homeless shelter housing 350 men, women, and children on an average day. PCM provides emergency and transitional housing to both men and families (including single mothers). The Help Center, opened in 1990, takes the donations our community gives us and distributes them to low-income families within the community for no cost. Here we collect and then distribute food, clothing, household items, furniture, toys, and personal care items. Textiles that are damaged or unwanted are recycled, with funds going back into supporting the services of the Mission. We give away the best and recycle the rest.

For families with children who have medical or cognitive challenges, it can seem like all hope is gone and there’s nothing but grief and struggle ahead. But there’s a one-of-a-kind place right here in Omaha that offers joy, hope and health to these families every day. It’s CRCC. CRCC is a team of uniquely skilled people who deliver comprehensive and compassionate services that help children with complex needs be all they can be — and give their parents real hope for the future. There is simply not another facility like CRCC. It’s staffed by highly trained and caring nurses, therapists and teachers who work together to deliver a brighter future to kids and families who might have previously felt helpless or lost. When we think about our community, we imagine one that is safe, healthy, successful and connected. That’s why Completely KIDS has made it our mission to empower kids and families with the skills necessary to break the cycle of poverty and overcome barriers to their success. Each year, we serve more than 2,000 Omaha-area kids, primarily between the ages of 4 and 14, and their families in working toward this mission. Our work takes place before and after the school day with our kids. We provide a safe, academically supportive and enriching environment at nine OPS elementary and middle schools, a parochial school, three homeless shelters, a community organization, and our building. We also offer expanded services to the families of our kids in the form of literacy, educational support, mental health services and referrals to other agencies as needed. Angels Among Us is a Nebraska nonprofit organization that financially assists families battling a pediatric cancer diagnosis. Families living-in or being treated in Nebraska for pediatric cancer are eligible to apply for assistance. Over our ten year history, we have assisted over 270 families with over $1.15 million in support.
