As Nebraska’s largest and most distinguished art museum, Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha has served as the premier center for visual art since opening in 1931. Joslyn's collection features work from antiquity to the present, with an emphasis on 19th- and 20th-century European and American art.

Recognized by international art critics as a world-class museum in the heart of the Midwest, the Des Moines Art Center has amassed an important collection with a major emphasis on contemporary art. The collection’s overriding principle is a representation of artists from the nineteenth century to the present, each through a seminal work. This accounts for an impressive collection that ranges from Edward Hopper’s "Automat"​ to Jasper Johns’ "Tennyson,"​ Henri Matisse’s "Woman in White,"​ Georgia O’Keeffe’s "From the Lake No. 1,"​ Francis Bacon’s "Study after Velásquez’s Portrait of Pope Innocent X,"​ Bill Viola’s "Ascension,"​ and Cecily "Brown’s Half-Bind."​ The Art Center’s physical complex marries with the collection for a totally integrated experience. The collection is housed in three major buildings, each designed by a world-renowned architect—Eliel Saarinen, I. M. Pei, and Richard Meier. With the exception of special events, admission to the museum is free. In September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park opened in Des Moines’ Western Gateway Park. Philanthropists John and Mary Pappajohn have provided funding for and donated 28 sculptures by internationally acclaimed contemporary artists to the Des Moines Art Center. The collection of sculptures by such artists as Louise Bourgeois, Deborah Butterfield, Willem de Kooning, Olafur Eliasson, Keith Haring, Ellsworth Kelly, Jaume Plensa, Richard Serra, Joel Shapiro, and Mark di Suvero, is the most significant donation of artwork to the Art Center in a single gift in the museum’s history. The Pappajohn Sculpture Park is a collaboration of the Pappajohns, the City of Des Moines, the Des Moines Art Center, and numerous corporate and private donors.

Lauritzen Gardens, Omaha's Botanical Center, is an urban oasis of beauty and tranquility. It is a hidden sanctuary in the heart of the city. This living plant museum is conveniently located on a 100-acre site of natural woods and rolling terraces just west of the banks of the Missouri River.

The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium inspires stewardship by creating educational experiences where history and rivers come alive. Vesterheim, the National Norwegian-American Museum and Folk Art School, welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds to engage in the conversation of the American immigrant journey through the lens of the Norwegian-American experience, and to participate in the continual evolution of traditional folk art as it meets new influences. The Durham Museum, located in the historic Union Station, offers a fascinating look at the history of the region and offers a broad-range of traveling exhibits covering subjects ranging from history and culture, to science, industry and more through our affiliation with the Smithsonian Institution and strong ties with national and international museums and lending institutions.

The Butterworth Center & Deere-Wiman House is located in the Overlook District of Moline, Illinois. Both historic homes once belonged to John Deere’s descendants but are now operated by the William Butterworth Foundation. They serve as year-round sites for quality educational and cultural events, meeting space for over 200 not-for-profit organizations, and tours for local, national, and international visitors.

Living History Farms tells the story of 300 years of agricultural history through three working farms: a 1700 Ioway Indian Farm, 1850 Pioneer Farm, and a 1900 Farm. There is also an 1875 town, which features a blacksmith, broom maker, general store, drug store, print shop, and more. The Flynn Mansion and Barn, which are on the National Register of Historic Places, are original to the 500 acres that Living History Farms is built on. Open May-October with many special events. The mission of the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art is to excite, engage, and educate through the arts. The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art houses more than 8,000 works of art spanning many eras—from Roman antiquity to the present. The collection is particularly strong in American art, especially from the first half of the 20th century. There are a number of artists the Museum holds in great depth—including the world's largest collection of works of art by Grant Wood. The Museum also possesses a strong collection of Roman portrait busts donated by Tom and Nan Riley, and an extensive print collection from the 15th century forward primarily donated by Peter O. Stamats. The collection is too comprehensive to be displayed all at once. That means chances are good that you'll see different, breathtaking pieces each time you visit!

Founded in 1913, Fontenelle Forest is one of Nebraska's oldest conservation organizations and one of the largest private nature centers in the nation. This federally designated 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity is a National Natural Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. FF owns and manages two nature centers: Fontenelle Forest Nature Center in Bellevue and Neale Woods in Omaha. The properties encompass nearly 2,100 acres of forest, prairie and wetlands along the Missouri River in the geographically significant Loess Hills. The mission of Fontenelle Forest is to provide a place where people can experience and enjoy the quiet wild of nature. We want to inspire current and future generations to care for the natural world.

The Figge Art Museum is the premier art exhibition and education facility between Chicago and Des Moines. Its landmark glass building on the banks of the Mississippi, designed by British architect David Chipperfield, is home to one of the Midwest’s finest art collections, and presents world-class traveling exhibitions.
