We do this by providing services and support in early intervention, residential living, community access, job placement and training, and transportation. SIRS Mission: We build relationships to support people with disabilities on their journey toward independence. SIRS Vision: Individuals with disabilities will have equal opportunities for employment, recreations, and living. SIRS advocates for full inclusion, personal choice, and self-direction of services. Customers involvement is key, and our ultimate goal is to assist in developing natural relationships & support while reducing reliance on SIRS. We believe that all people have the right to live where they want, work where they want, and live how they choose. We support our customers in making their own decisions and creating the lives they want. We encourage the people we serve and our community partners to come together and help each other. We celebrate the unique gifts of all, and we facilitate the development of interests, skills, connections, and support to achieve personal goals. The organization was founded in 1968 through a local grassroots effort of parents of children with disabilities and organizations who envisioned a community that welcomed and offered opportunity to individuals with disabilities rather than sending them to state-run institutions. SIRS continues to advocate for and implement best-practice, quality services for people with disabilities.

Starting all children on a pathway to lifetime success through early childhood learning experiences. We provide a high-quality, nurturing program for children ages six weeks to six years with a comprehensive kindergarten readiness curriculum. Our children learn through core learning experiences that include language, math, science, creative art, music, and active play. We also incorporate special enrichment programs such as Suzuki Violin, Minds in Motion, SPARK, and more. St. Vincent Early Learning Center has a long history of service to children, families, and our community that dates back to 1918. During World War I, women began assuming roles in industry as men were called to military service, and they needed a safe and affordable way to have their children cared for while they worked. The Ladies of Charity of Evansville responded to the need by establishing St. Vincent’s Day Nursery. Within a few months of St. Vincent’s start, the Ladies of Charity were unable to accommodate the huge demand for service so they appealed to the Daughters of Charity at St. Mary’s Hospital to manage the agency. While the Daughters of Charity is no longer involved in the day-to-day operation of St. Vincent, their values permeate our mission and their sponsorship continues to support our work. Today high-quality early education and care are needed more than ever with the increase in single-parent households and the number of women who work outside the home. And today as in the past, St. Vincent remains faithful to addressing that need for our community’s families.
