I was chosen among 50+ students who applied to intern at an Internal Medicine Clinic in Sugarland, TX, for seven weeks. I gained valuable insights into the medical profession. I shadowed the doctor and scribed for him, often seeing patients under a physician assistant's supervision. I maintained a record of my effort and analyzed unique medical cases in a report. I presented my findings to a team at the clinic and later at the Methodist Hospital in Sugar Land. Although I chose not to go into the medical field, this internship offered me experience that taught me universal skills such as being able to converse with and, understand a patient's medical need. I also learned to use multiple software that the clinic was using. I was also able to research complex diseases such as End-Stage Renal (Kidney) Disease (ESRD). I then created a presentation that was organized, thorough, and with a focus on the patient. I was successfully able to explain this topic in terms a patient could understand. This speaks to my understanding of, organizational and time management skills and ability to learn difficult information quickly.
