Foellinger Foundation, Inc. is a private, charitable foundation that awards grants for the benefit of people in Fort Wayne and Allen County, Indiana. The Foundation was created in 1958 by Helene R. Foellinger, The News-Sentinel’s publisher from 1936 to 1980, and Esther A. Foellinger, her mother. It was established to carry forward their family’s tradition of civic involvement and active concern for the well-being of their community. From 1958 through 1987, their gifts and bequests developed the Foundation into a permanent philanthropic endowment. Its grantmaking continues to reflect the Foellinger family’s interest in encouraging a community of self-reliant citizens.

Northeast Indiana Works, the region’s non-profit workforce development organization, provides public and private financial and employment resources for education and skills training to meet the needs of regional industries. Each year, we serve more than 20,000 individuals and more than 1,500 employers in Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Grant, Huntington, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wabash, Wells and Whitley counties. We operate and staff Northeast Indiana’s 11 WorkOne Northeast career centers; oversee state and federally supported adult education programs and two youth-oriented career development programs; fund and manage employer-focused training programs to enhance the skills of existing workers; and help facilitate community-based career pathway initiatives. We are governed by a board of directors, which includes regional educators, business representatives, economic development officials, state and local government leaders, and organized labor. Our operational, funding and service delivery policies are guided by the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which seeks to increase access to employment, education, training and support services for youth and adults. WIOA promotes work-based learning opportunities, such as apprenticeships and internships, and encourages the development of career pathway strategies. Our mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. We accomplish our mission by partnering with parents/guardians, volunteers and others in the community, and we hold ourselves accountable for each child in our program achieving: - Higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships; - Avoidance of risky behaviors; and - Educational success. Big Brothers Big Sisters helps vulnerable children break negative odds. Our professionally supported volunteer services are proven to reduce children’s risk of dropping out of school, becoming violent, using drugs and alcohol, and falling victim to other negative cycles. We recognize the hardship, pain, and challenges that children experience in too many of our communities. Our movement is relevant and there’s an urgent demand for what we achieve. Serving 13 counties in Northeast Indiana and South Central Michigan, we serve more than 1,800 annually.
