With backgrounds in engineering, business and graphic design, Judy Anderson and her husband Pat founded ISI in 1986 as "Identification Systems, Inc."​ Over the next few years they outgrew the original location in Westerville, Ohio and moved the company in 1994 to a larger building on King Avenue in Columbus.
