WIHD is one of the nation's 67 University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDDs). WIHD works towards a shared vision that foresees a future in which all people, including people with disabilities, participate fully in their communities. Independence, productivity, and community inclusion are key components of this vision. WIHD is uniquely positioned to facilitate the flow of disability-related information between community and university. The Institute works with people with disabilities, vulnerable children, members of their families, state and local government agencies, and community providers on projects that provide training, technical assistance, direct medical and clinical care, research, and information sharing, with a focus on building the capacity of communities to sustain all their citizens. Many issues, such as early intervention, health care, community-based services, inclusive and meaningful education, transition from school to work, employment, housing, assistive technology, and transportation have been directly addressed by the services, research, and training provided by the UCEDD's and WIHD.

Forestdale’s roots go back 168 years, when a group of women affiliated with a church in Brooklyn founded an industrial school for children, which in 1980 became Forestdale. Forestdale is the only child welfare agency headquartered in Queens, with an exclusive focus on the particular needs of Queens'​ and Brooklyn communities & families. While traditional child-welfare programs are typically designed to ensure the safety of children, Forestdale is committed to going beyond the basics by actively pursuing cutting-edge and evidence-based approaches to address the changing needs of low-income families across Queens and Brooklyn. We embody this commitment by providing a comprehensive continuum of services to help children and families heal from trauma and overcome inter-generational cycles of poverty.

Connecticut Institute For Communities, Inc. (CIFC) is a locally based independent, non-profit, IRS recognized Section 501(C) (3) Community Development Corporation (CDC), whose Mission is dedicated to advancing our communities, and fostering greater opportunities for low and moderate income individuals and families of our service areas, through a combination of health and education programs, and housing and economic development projects. It is the only such organization in Western Connecticut.

Family & Children's Aid (FCA) is a community-based, non-profit agency designed to help support and heal Connecticut's children, adolescents and their families by providing high quality emerging and evidence-based mental health services. FCA believes that seeking help is a sign of strength and that excellent care should be available to individuals and families in all walks of life, whenever needed and without discrimination. FCA’s clinical services reach throughout western Connecticut and include group homes for children and adolescents who have been removed from their home environments by the CT Department of Children and Families, outpatient therapeutic programs, Therapeutic Foster Care program, and in-home and community-based services for children and families who are at-risk for, or are in the midst of crisis. FCA's main campus is located in Danbury, with additional offices in Waterbury, Torrington, New Britain, Shelton, Bridgeport and New Milford to better serve clients throughout western CT.

Family Centers is a private, nonprofit organization offering education, health and human services to children, adults and families in Fairfield County. More than 300 professionals and over 500 trained volunteers work together to provide a wide range of responsive, innovative programs. Through our three Centers of Excellence, children, adults, families and communities receive the care, encouragement and resources needed to realize their potential. Our network delivery network includes 15 licensed facilities, along with more than 60 service delivery sites located throughout lower Fairfield County. Each year, Family Centers serves more than 22,000 children, adults and adults. Family Centers has been awarded a perfect 100 Encompass rating for fiscal responsibility from Charity Navigator. We have also been named a nine-time winner of Hearst Connecticut Media's Top Workplace survey. Family Centers is a United Way, Community Fund of Darien and New Canaan Community Foundation partner agency, and is a member of the Connecticut Council of Family Service Agencies. The organization is also accredited by the Joint Commission and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Family Centers is licensed by the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health.

Since 1988 Alternatives For Children, a not-for-profit private school, has been at the forefront in providing educational experiences to a broad spectrum of children from across Long Island. Alternatives For Children is approved by the New York State Department of Health as an Early Intervention Program provider under contract with Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and is a New York State Preschool Special Education provider, offering both integrated and self-contained preschool classes. Alternatives For Children provides a nurturing environment for children that reflects our longstanding commitment to children, their individual needs, and our own high standards. A dynamic early childhood environment is one in which children are encouraged to be creative, explore and experiment in order to meet or exceed the criteria established for their age. Children who graduate from our program are given the tools they need to be ready to learn and be successful as they transition to the kindergarten environment. Approved and licensed by the New York State Departments of Education and Health, the New York State Office of Children & Family Services, the Nassau & Suffolk County Department of Health Divisions of Services for Children with Special Needs. All classes are taught by New York State dually certified special education/early childhood teachers working in collaboration with certified teaching assistants. Therapeutic services are provided by specially trained, licensed/certified therapists experienced in working with young children. Counseling and social work services are provided by licensed/certified psychologists and social workers. STAR is a not-for-profit organization serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as providing support services to their families. They create opportunities for individuals to live full lives with independence, freedom of choice and personal growth by providing support, services and advocacy. STAR is located at 182 Wolfpit Avenue in Norwalk, and serves Mid-Fairfield County Connecticut with additional offices at TEC in South Norwalk, the STAR Rubino Family Center in Norwalk, and over 25 residential and community-based employment programs serving clients throughout Norwalk, Westport, Darien, New Canaan, Wilton, and Weston. STAR was established in 1952 by parents who believed that children with intellectual and developmental disabilities were entitled to the same basic opportunities as other children. Today, the organization has grown to include a full array of services for over 600 individuals with disabilities, from birth to their senior years, and their families.
