These programs include, but are not limited to: veterans services such as our VetsWork employment program, Baxter's Pet Pantry, children's nutrition programs such as AsparaGus's Children's Breakfast Food Truck, the Kids Café Food and Afterschool Mentoring Program, and the Pack It Up for Kids weekend meal program, and a variety of mobile outreach and food distribution services to ensure that homeless Long Islanders, disabled veterans, senior citizens and other populations for whom travel is difficult receive the services and assistance they need. Long Island Cares is a member of Feeding America. We are a BBB accredited charity and recently received Charity Navigator’s highest 4-star rating for the sixth consecutive year. We are proud to carry on Harry's legacy of tireless advocacy and effort on behalf of hungry and food insecure Long Islanders.

Founded in 1925, we have four sites located in Bridgeport, Norwalk, Stratford, and Fairfield. Services are available in both English and Spanish. Our mission is to promote positive child development and the emotional well-being of children as well as to empower families to provide a nurturing, caring, and safe haven for children to grow and to mature. We strive to be responsive to the mental health and behavioral needs of the community by working in collaboration with parents, providers, and others to offer services that are culturally competent, built on the strengths of the families we serve, and driven by the individual needs of our clients. No one is denied services based on their inability to pay. Many of our services are offered free of charge while some ask for a ‘fee for service’ based on a sliding scale. Additionally, some of our programs accept Medicaid, HUSKY, and several commercial insurance providers. All fees (if applicable) are at reviewed at the Intake appointment.
