FERNCO, INC.
FERNCO, INC.
Davison, Michigan
201-500 employees
Fernco, has become synonymous with not only flexible couplings, but also an ever-expanding array of innovative commercial and consumer plumbing products. In the early 1950’s William Zopfi started his plumbing business focusing was connecting new homes and businesses to the city sewer lines. After much experimentation, he created a tar donut that provided a leak-proof seal. In 1964 Fernco Joint Sealer Company officially took off when he received a patent and a trademark for his ‘Donut’. In order for Zopfi’s business to expand he needed to form a team of professionals and hired the visionary Darrel Cooper. Behind Cooper’s marketing knowledge was a philosophy of working closely with wholesale distributors to provide products in a timely manner. In 1973 the city of Dallas Texas requested a bid for the first Fernco Coupling to fit a pipe without a bell housing. Cooper saw this product as the opportunity for growth on a broad scale and established couplings in the market. As more manufacturing and office space was required, the company moved its current headquarters to Davison, Michigan. In 1978, Cooper was named President of the company and in 1979 he purchased Fernco Joint Sealer Company forming a new company called Fernco, Inc. The company recognized the need to deliver products to the unexplored Retail Market. In 1984, the PlumbQwik line was introduced exclusively for the retail market segment, which resulted in rapid market share growth. Fernco expanded into Europe as Fernco International, Ltd. was established in Stockport, England in 1993 to manufacture and distribute Fernco and PVC based products. In the following decades, Fernco continued to see worldwide growth throughout North America, Europe, Australia, South America and Central America. Unlimited opportunities abound for Fernco as it continues to be a family affair with the next generation of Cooper’s leading the way.

SHUERT TECHNOLOGY, LLC

Shuert Technologies designed and tooled its first twin sheet pallet in the early 1970′s. In 1981, we purchased a thermoforming company, Oakland Plastics, and installed our first twin sheet machine. What began as a small tooling business in 1971, is now a 20 acre campus with a 340,000 square foot facility housing design, tooling, manufacturing and warehousing functions. Since our first pallet, we have designed and tooled over 1500 different projects in twin sheet and over half of our production has been twin sheet products. Shuert Technologies has produced over twenty million twin sheet parts to date, most of which can be classified as a pallet, a pallet variation, and/or a material handling container. The majority of our future growth will be in twin sheet. Shuert Technologies is the manufacturer of Uni-Pak® Reusable shipping and storage systems, Uni-Pak® Bulk System, Uni-Pallet®, Uni-Case®, Yarn-Pak®, and an extensive line of other innovative proprietary and custom material handling devices. During our early years, Shuert Technologies growth was deliberate. This allowed us to design and improve our products by working closely with the leaders in the industries we had targeted as having the greatest need for returnable and reusable packaging. In more recent years, what was once deliberate growth has led to rapid growth as user awareness has increased, and the tangible rewards of reusable and recyclable packaging became apparent to a more informed consumer. Our customers describe us as innovative problem solvers in the areas of material handling and packaging. We have demonstrated the ability to combine design and twin sheet thermoforming technologies into unique, cost effective, reusable shipping, storage, and material handling devices for a wide range of applications. Let us solve your material handling problems.
