Pasadena Community Foundation (PCF) was founded in 1953 with the goal to address "current needs unmet and future needs unforeseen." To meet these needs, the Foundation works with local families and groups to meet their charitable goals – to build their “hometown legacies” – to provide enduring support for its mission to improve and enrich the lives of people in the greater Pasadena area. Now, seventy years after its inception, the public-spirited organization remains unique in its support of broad-spectrum charities from arts organizations to human services agencies. In 2022, PCF granted $11 million; $2.6 million of that total went directly to Pasadena-area nonprofit organizations. Through an annual competitive application process, grants are awarded to Pasadena nonprofits from endowments for which the PCF Board has discretion. Additional grants are generated through donor advised funds, family foundation funds, and other charitable funds where individuals or advisory committees direct the grants to charities anywhere in the country.
